I have been inundated with constituents contacting me about plans to remove Morley’s heritage street lamps. Today, I’m launching my campaign to #SaveMorleysHeritageLighting If you’d like to join the campaign, click the link below:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdo-ZWMcW0ABTZ1lxwgPngOWw6QGip01CqyHNF5iPHfBXzoUg/viewform?usp=sf_link Heritage lighting has been a part of Morley since the 1920’s, before being removed in the 1950’s/1960’s. Our current lights were installed in 1994, as part of works to pedestrianise Queen Street. They were modelled on the original lamps from the early part of the 20th century. Whilst lighting may require renewal & repair, I agree with many constituents that this should only be done on like-for-like basis, respecting the unique history & heritage of our Town. 📷: This is what Queen Street would look like with proposed new lighting (Left), Queen Street in the 1920’s (Bottom Left), Queen Street & Queen Street West 1920’s (Bottom Right)
